It’s over a year now since the revised ISO 9001 and 14001 standards were released, and there’s less than 2 years left until everyone will have to have converted their systems to these standards.
So what has been the experience so far? In our view there are two key points:
1 The new standards are a significant improvement on the old ones; and
2 Conversion to them really isn’t that difficult if you know what you’re doing!.
We have already finished the conversion process for some of our clients, and generally it has been a useful and pain free process. Most businesses are benefitting from looking properly at such areas as risk, and are finding that, if done properly, their systems are improved as a result of converting to the new standard.
What should you do if you haven’t started the process yet?
There’s still no need to panic, as the cut-off point is not until September 2018. However, we would recommend that you get on with it in the next year or so, ideally when your system is up for recertification. We appreciate that on the face of it the new standards look very different and daunting. However, it’s not impossible and we are happy to offer help and advice and we feel that we have got a good practical way of implementing the new standards.
